Dr Downs obtained his PhD in 2009 for solar UV radiation modeling. From 2010 to 2011 Dr Downs was employed at Griffith University within the School of Coastal Engineering. He has been employed in an academic role in the School of Mathematics and Computing since 2013 at the University of Southern Queensland. His research interests include shade, the UV index and atmospherics.
